St. John’s baseball put together a season for the ages in 2017. The Johnnies achieved the program’s 36th all-time appearance in the NCAA Tournament – a number that ranks ninth in all of college baseball. The 2016-17 Red Storm went 42-13, just one win shy of the program record for victories in a season, and became just the second team in school history to record 40 wins before the end of the regular season.
Skipper Ed Blankmeyer guided the BIG EAST Coaching Staff of the Year for a league record seventh time. In addition, seven members of the Red Storm were named to the All-BIG EAST First Team. Right-hander Sean Mooney became just the second hurler in BIG EAST history to be named the conference’s Freshman of the Year and Pitcher of the Year simultaneously. Over the summer, three members of the Red Storm heard their names called in the MLB Draft, while two additional graduating seniors signed free agent professional contracts.
To recognize the success of last year’s team – which was ranked as high as #4 nationally – we are raising our game to increase fundraising efforts in support of the baseball program. Welcome to the 40/40 challenge! Our goal is straightforward: We seek to raise an additional $40,000 to support our baseball student-athletes to provide them and our baseball program with the latest cutting-edge technology and equipment.
Without your help and support, it would be much more difficult for our baseball team to continue to be a BIG EAST and national powerhouse. Please consider stepping up to the plate with a gift in support of the team. To make your contribution, please click the button below or mail your gift to the Athletic Development Office.
Thanks again for your consideration. Remember we are New York’s team! WE ARE ST. JOHN’S!
In gratitude,
