Honoring Our Colleagues and Friends by Supporting Students
Please join us as we honor the retirement of Robert A. Mangione '77P, '79GP, '93PD, '99Ed.D., Frank Barile '77P, '80GP, '82Ph.D., Michael Barletta '65P, '70GP, Ph.D., and Cesar Lau-Cam, Ph.D., by making a gift to support the Dr. Robert A. Mangione Endowed Scholarship Fund and/or the Dean’s Scholarship Fund, which were established to support students in the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences.
Dr. Mangione has dedicated his life’s work at St. John’s to inspiring those around him—students, colleagues, and alumni alike. On his tenure, Dr. Mangione remarked, “Every morning I would wake up excited to come to work because I knew I was privileged to work at St. John’s.”
Dr. Mangione joined the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences’ (CPHS) faculty in 1979 and became Dean in 1999, a position he held until 2012, when he was elected University Provost. In 2018, Dr. Mangione stepped down from this role and returned to faculty. He retired from the University this fall.
He is joined in retirement by three esteemed faculty from the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences: Dr. Frank Barile, Dr. Michael Barletta, and Dr. Cesar Lau-Cam. All full professors, Drs. Barile, Barletta, and Lau-Cam served as exceptional teachers, researchers, and scholars, and mentored many outstanding students during their extraordinary careers.
“I’ve been very lucky to have had the opportunity to work with Dr. Mangione, Dr. Barletta, Dr. Barile, and Dr. Lau-Cam,” shared Russell DiGate, Ph.D., CPHS Dean. “I wish them well as they begin this new chapter in their lives.”
